Government Building in Washington DC
This project required us to remove all soil (9’ high) from the area, encase existing caissons and pour slab on the new grade. Approximately 1,000 cy of soil/dirt was removed in order to make space for the new work. Encountered difficulties were access to the work area, underground water and noise. We worked at night using dirt vacuum pump trucks and half a dozen laborers loosening up dirt in order for vacuum truck to suck it out. Once dirt was removed, stone and concrete were delivered through a hole that was cored in the courtyard sidewalk in order for shoot and concrete pump hoses to place stone/concrete. Stages of the project shown below.

Smithsonian
District Construction excavated, formed and poured large sump pump pit, formed and poured 4 large mechanical pads on the second and the third floors. Difficulties encountered were working inside the Smithsonian building that did not allow use of gas/diesel or propane powered equipment. We used a small electric excavator and electrical hoist system to lift the concrete to the second and the third floors. Project was completed successfully on time in partnership with Biscayne as GC. Photos below show project stages.

DVP Brambelton Substation
This project was completed for DVP under the subcontract with A.T. Austin Inc. who was subcontractor to Mitsubishi Electric. It required us to build new foundations/footers on caissons, grade beams, piers and SOG. Difficulties encountered were starting the job in February of 2015 (lots of snow and freezing temperatures). Total of 1,200 cy of concrete was used to complete this project. Project was completed 15 days ahead of schedule. Pictures below show phases of the project.

NOYES W/S Recycling Plant
This project was done under NOYES for Government Agency (name of which we are not allow to disclose). It required us to remove cca 8,000 sf of existing 12″ thick concrete SOG as well as existing mezzanine and prep, form, reinforce and pour new mezzanine, SOG, trenches and two Sump Pits. Difficulties encountered were not being allowed to use high-powered equipment (bobcats with breaker attachment). We had to use electric jack hammers only to remove existing SOG that was in areas more the 12” thick. Pictures below show new trench and large pit.

UMD Remote Library Storage Facility
This project was completed for Turner Construction as a subcontractor to V.I. Management Group LLC. It required us to pour new footers for new steel columns, HVAC pads, plumbing trenches and 8″ slab over the existing slab. The new slab was poured monolithically ( total of 380 cy ). Pictures below show project slab reinforcement and pour/finishing.
